about

This album is a collection of guitar centered pieces. As I was recording I was thinking about taking the guitar itself out of its original context, using effects pedals to shift the tones into more abstract places, thusly distancing the preconceived idea of how a guitar should sound. The underlying tonal bed for 5 of the 7 tracks were laid down in one reasonably productive 6 hour session, linking the album together in a relative fashion. Subsequent overdubs were added according to what each piece was demanding. 'Island' is a piece i completed shortly after releasing the 'Houses of Solid Light' record.

This is music for quiet spaces, and as such performs better under certain circumstances than others . It is intended that you focus fully on the sonic experience itself, rather than have it on in the background while performing mundane activities. It performs best in the dark at high volume, or in headphones.

Equipment used includes:
Epiphone Casino
Electro Harmonix Memory Boy
Electro Harmonix POG 2
Electro Harmonix Cathedral Reverb
Moog MF-102 Ring Modulator
Moog MF-105 MURF
Akai Headrush 2
Hao Rust Driver
Devi Ever Spectacular Aenima
Frostwave Sonic Alienator
Cello bow
Ebow

No software or hardware synthesizers were used to create these sounds.

Recorded to 1/2" tape on a Fostex E16 at the Sonus Empyrean Kitchen.
Very subtle reverbs and delays were added in post.

This may be the last guitar bast work I do for a while, as i've been exploring alot of other musical directions of late. To hazard a guess guitar will feature here and there, but will no longer be the focus.

Thank you for listening.
